Dating In The 21st Century

Hi Everyone,

So often I hear students having trouble using in, on, at – these are the prepositions of time and place. They can be very confusing and of course, there are special expressions and exceptions. Here’s a graph to help you with the uses of these prepositions

For some more practice take another look at the exercises we did in class, prepositions of time and prepositions of place.

Now, on to yesterday’s topic : Love and Dating in the 21st Century. We began by talking about where we look for romantic love – places like bars, clubs, restaurants, school, work, gym, vacations, and while traveling. In today’s world there are online dating sites.

You can virtually find anyone and make a match!

Another popular, fun, and quick way to meet potential romantic partners is speed dating. This is usually held at a bar, restaurant or club, and people are given a few minutes to meet people, ask a few questions, and see if there is any mutual interest. No one in class has tried speed dating, but, maybe after watching this video, you will give it a try……  or maybe not!

After watching this funny video about a young woman, Ava, and her experience with speed dating, we agreed that looks can be deceiving and that maybe you can find love after all.

Words of the day

splurge (verb) :{informal} to spend more money than usual on something for yourself                                                                                                                               We decided to splurge on a nice bottle of wine at dinner, since we were celebrating our 10th wedding anniversary.

neat freak (noun) : {informal} a person who always wants things to be very orderly and clean                                                                                                                                   My roommate is such a neat freak, he’s constantly cleaning our apartment!

max out (phrasal verb) : {informal} to reach an upper limit; to spend all the money that your credit card allows you to borrow                                                                          I’m always afraid that I’ll max out my credit card when I’m shopping for the holidays.

Enjoy this beautiful winter weekend!

Don’t be shy, give speed dating a try!!!

Relax and Practice!
